On June 19, 1865, over 2 years after President Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation, General Gordon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas, and read General Order Number 3: “The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.” For the first time, slaves in Texas learned that they were already free. Some were shocked; many others celebrated. June 19 soon became known as “Juneteenth.”

143 years have gone by since slaves in America were officially set free.
President Abraham Lincoln paid for their freedom with his own life. He was assassinated!
He bought freedom for African Americans with his own life!!!

Although Labour Day in the USA is celebrated on a different day, African Americans can rejoice that they are no longer 'in chains' like their forefathers 143 or more years ago.....Amen!

My wife who is a nurse at a small private maternity hospital labours from 1pm to 9pm daily except for Tuesdays.
Apart from this, she has to be on call when any pregnant lady has an emergency in the labour room. She goes to accompany the expectant mother to provide comfort, since she herself, aged 49, has been a mother of our 3 children, twin boys aged 24 each & a girl aged 14.
Labour day is significant to us as workers although I myself works as a college lecturer since 1976.
I always identify myself with the working class people because my college - Queen Mary College, University of London - was in East London where the people are mostly from the working class. Poor people are humble & nice to befriend.
Labour Day means much to people like us who labours hard for a living.

143 years have gone by since slaves were set free by Abraham Lincoln.
Yet in our country, there are foreign workers working 12 hours a day for RM23 only.
This is exploitation of labour.
Can foreign workers get a better deal in Kuala Lumpur where the cost of living is high?

The whole world knows the people of Myanmar are suffering at the hands of the present regime.

I am just wondering whether President Bush of America doesn't know or pretend not to know.

Instead, he invaded Iraq & slaughterd Sadam Hussein.
There was no Arms of Mass Destruction.
What he has done to Iraq should have been done to Myanmar in order to ease the sufferings of the people there. He should have invaded Myanmar to bring down the ruthless ruling regime.
I hope Obama will do just that when he become the next President of America.

Thersa, you do look somewhat scrawny.
Perhaps your schedule is taking a toll on you.
How about cutting back a bit?
Delegate while keeping tab on what's going on.

Poor Teresa,

your admission of yawning makes you feel like one of our own.

anyway saw you in ur state assembly uniform in today's paper. U looked smart but the hat and your hair makes a curious yet cute combination.

I am concern that DAP is targeted by hatred and sore losers, or worse, racist lunatics with the bombing of DAP HQ and bullet in envelop for Karpal.

For once I agree with Nazri who stood by you to condemn this action. Again, not surprisingly, the Prime Minister not even farted a response.

Please
1) urge the police to investigate without bias
2) promote multi-culturalism in DAP to avoid being easy target of racism
3) be careful at all times

Dear BN,

before GN, you loudly proclaimed "budaya siapa" while airing photos of street protestors. So is "budaya BN" in the form of fire bombs and bullets since these are targetted at your political opponent?

Hope it is not so. Please, PM, MCA, Gerakan and MIC heads, make your stand loud and clear so it would deter lunatics from acting on their own.
