Dear Lee Wee Tak,
In any race you will agree we have the good and the bad guys. At present I am only talking of the bad guys that give the Chinese a bad name.Mostly Chinese frequent Genting and that does not mean all Chinese are gamblers. There are Chinese who hate gambling but some how many people think if you are a Chinese you must be a gambler.Just like, not all Americans have the "Ugly American" image. There are also generous Jews, Muslims etc.
During the Japanese Occupation many Chinese in the MPAJA gave their lives. Then came the Emergency when the Chinese had a bad name.
You are referring to Sybil Kathigasu wife of Dr. A.C. Kathigasu. They had a practice in Papan and Ipoh.Inspite of her torture by the Japanese, somehow her name was forgotten. In this present world good deeds are often forgotten but bad deeds remain.
Chye Kooi Loon was trying to commonerate the Battle of Kampar unfortunate he is having some obstacles.Yes, also the Chinese educationist made sacrifices, but their deed are forgotten to those who benefitted.
I do not know if you have read alias Chin Peng, My Side of History. in my opinion he should never be allowed to settle in Malaysia. When one believe in a struggle etc ,one has to be consistent in their beliefs at all cost.Otherwise don't do it. I hear the DAP speaker was against wearing the songkok but eventually gave in.
Please note I am not on a bashing spree against the Chinese. Just telling you my opinion in this debate.
If you read the Chinese papers they will always give you the inside story from the official version of any incident. It is up to the individual to draw their own conclusions. Likewise you just draw your own conclusions to what I have written.

"What you are trying to say is the Chinese prefer to pay others to do their dirty work for them?"

You may have to explain what you are trying to say here because most of us are not involved in organised crime so we do not engage guns for hire.

The closest thing I can think of is we Chinese do pay maids, factory workers and labourers to look after our homes, factories, restautant and businesses and in the course of their work, they would encounter filth, rubbish and dirt.

Dear IBI,

On second thought I think I did not do justice to your valid points of view. You have rightly single out Lim Kit Siang & co.

I once remarked to and agreed by an astute female friend of mine that majority of the Chinese is “kia si” (scared of death – i.e. afraid to take on issues). Let’s look at the historical prospective.

Almost all the Chinese that came to Malaya and Borneo during the 19th century and early 20th century have 2 aims – 1) escape the crazy political instability in China (the Taiping Revolution cause an astounding 40 MILLION casualty, > than all Malaysians and Singaporeans today) 2) earn a decent living, accumulate health and balik kampong.

This mentality of seeking wealth, safety and harmony has passed down to subsequent generations hence the Malaysian Chinese are considered gentler and less aggressive than Chinese in Taiwan, mainland China and Hong Kong. Political activism there is significantly more aggressive in more than 1 ways.

As for Malaysian Chinese who can be more aggressive, I did some mental research and come up to these few examples to share with you, hoping that it can add on to your observation and hopefully reshape somewhat your opinion.

1) Lim Boo Seng – Min Yuen operator during the Japanese occupation who was betrayed, captured, tortured by the Kempeitai, and according to Colonel Spenser Chapman, “died with his lips sealed.” Mister Lim, together with Leftnan Adnan and the doctor Cybil (can’t recall her full name) have my deepest honour and respect.

Incidentally when some Chinese enacted a memorial slab to commemorate anti-Japanese occupation on private property, the Negri Sembilan State government wanted to tear it down as it interprets as communist memorial. I blame it on the shallowness of the history syllabus of our education system.

2) Lim Lian Yit – he defended the survival of Chinese education, schools and spirit, fighting off mainland Nationalist politicians with ulterior motive, British imperialist administrators and Malaya administrators who are not exactly staunch supporter of Chinese education system.

It s noted that Mister Lim wanted the syllabus of the Chinese schools here to pledge their loyalty to Malaya & its multi racial harmony and not to mainland China. Mister Lim died defending his belief stripped of his citizenship. He did less harm than a drug pusher, bank robber, rapist and unit trust salesman (tongue in cheek, this one) and lost his citizenship. How many drug pusher lost his citizenship when he went into the gallows.

Our school history books have often portrayed communist fighters as terrorists. (Then again, hostory books are written by the victors)While I do not support their mode of struggle not their eventual objective of communist rule, I can quote them as a counter-argument of yours then Chinese in Malaysia are pussy cats.

The new generations of Chinese youth would be more proactive. We have a mixed bag, like Tian Chua the street fighter mode, Mr. Lims in parliament, countless NGOs to stand firm and contribute to the society. Let’s be optimistic.

"Sorry I don’t read Chinese newspaper.
What you are trying to say is the Chinese prefer to pay others to do their dirty work for them?
They prefer to bribe their way rather than go to court to fight their cases?"

I agree with you that there are many Chinese that are selfish, timid, all talk and no action only. Some goes for all races, Malays, Indians, white, black, brown, pola dot all over the world.

While you bravely admit you don't read Chinese newspaper, you have disqualifed yourself from making sweeping statement about Chinese. There are many many Chinese who toil away and you don't know about them.

There are many, who are ignorant about the system and their civil rights, might choose to pay their way out. Sometimes, they are victim of a system, or sometimes they are going against a system. In the same token, are you saying all government servants are bribe takers? That would be a disservice to those honest numbers among them.

Whatever the case maybe, you have no right to categorise a race just like that.

I would not say all Malays are lazy, all Indians are wife beaters, all jews are zioinist, all Arabs are terrorists, all Americans are war mongers, all English are football hooligans, all Africans are black. To me that is shallow and disrespectful of others.

Just curious, I presume you are not of Chinese origin? Why the Chinese bashing? I think Pek Yang's "ugly chinaman" is a good read for you.

Lee Wee Tak
Sorry I don't read Chinese newspaper.
What you are trying to say is the Chinese prefer to pay others to do their dirty work for them?
They prefer to bribe their way rather than go to court to fight their cases?
I am sure there are some good Malaysian citizens who are Chinese. Many are dedicated to what they profess in.
Lim Kit Siang , Lim Guan Eng and many DAP MPs and members who could have done well if they joined BN, but chose to sacrifice their beliefs and stay poor.
I take my hat to them for the sacrifices they made. Try staying in prison for one month. They to me are putting their money where their mouth is.
Unfortunately there are also many Chinese who can talk but cannot work. This group are the most dangerous ones.People who cannot work should talk less. Many people like to condemn the system etc. but will not be a member of a political party to make their voice heard.
They prefer to shout from the comforts of their homes.
Say, sometimes we blame our MPs for not attending to our problems. These MPs will have many other problems to attend and we must take our queue.
Again I take my hat to YB LKS and other MPs for keeping us informed through their blogs inspite of their tight schedule. One has to appreciate that they are human also. They also want some private life.

IBI

Do you read Chinese newspapers? The way Chinese community strive for its cultural survival is more on fund-raising, self-financing etc

Chinese organise fund collection from hawkers' fare, donation from businesses, contribution from beer revenue. These funds usually end up in chinese schools.

If you know the story about the "tai seng koong" defending the primary school in Damansara to his death? You would change your mind.

The Chinese do not march on the street because being relatively economically well-off they are not that desparate. It is also a trait of Chinese to solve their problems by pooling economic resources together.

Taking matters to the street is not the only way to solve your problems.

We still have lion dance teams that usually end up being first or second in the lion dance competition beating teams from Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. Not too bad, eh?

MCA defending the Chinese culture? I don't know about their track record but I can tell you that there are many volunteers out there doing that. One of my school mates devoid his entire life towards Chinese dance and culture. His livelihood depends on that.

MCA was supposed to defend the Chinese culture etc. What happened to them all this while?
Did they do a good job?
The Malays had Bersih and the Indians had Hindraf to prove their point. What did the Chinese do? Just talk and grumble in the comfort of their homes.
The Bersih and Hindraf marchers made the Government notice their problems.
Anyone can talk and grumble of their dissatisfactions without taking any risks.
How come the Chinese did not march to prove their points to the government?
You said:"Denied of proper government funding despite being paying hell lot of taxes, denied allocation of human and land resources." Why don't you organise a march to prove your point? Like they say, action speaks louder than words.

I hope you do. Denied of proper government funding despite being paying hell lot of taxes, denied allocation of human and land resources.

-- all Malaysians are doing it. Do we not watch TV, surf internet, go to hypermarkets, read newspapers & books, drive a car? All these are not from Malaya, China or India. If you are true to your principles, why are you here?

The Chinese started corrupting others and now they are complaining about corruption.

-- can you show the evidence that corruption is started by Chinese?

-- back during the times of kesultanan Melaka, Melaka has to pay tribute to Siam and later decided to pay China to gain protection so history proves that payment for favour started early, very early and how do you know "he started it first, teacher?"

Why are the Chinese referred as “towkay” by other races?

-- if you talk about Soh Chin Aun, it is the way he marshalled the defence for Selangor, Melaka & Malaysia
-- towkay literally means head of the family. chinese business are mostly family business so the nickname shows a sign of respect of the family and hardwork
-- towkay does not mean corruptor. we have other words for that

Say if MCA was the dominant party instead of UMNO, do you think UMNO and the MIC will have a fair share of the Malaysian cake?
The Chinese started corrupting others and now they are complaining about corruption.
Why are the Chinese referred as "towkay" by other races?
If you believe strongly in your heritage , you must make sacrifices to achive it.
You do not talk about your heritage when you are willing to adopt another language or culture to get a better standard of living.
Probably you have not seen or experienced the Chinese "fixers" in practically all government Departments before Merdeka.
You may also not have heard of "Tan Chong" transfer in the Army if you make a complaint on the quality of goods supplied by them.

"They send their children overseas to get a Western education. They should be sending their children to China if they are so concerned over losing their Chinese heritage or identity."

- Malaysian Chinese are denied fair access into local U onmerit. The parents save $$$ like hell so please don't look down on them

- You kidding? How many Chinese U does the Malaysian government recognise? Besides the best Us are in thrieving democratic countries

"Why didn’t they complain when their children had to use a mortar board and graduation gown during the graduation ceremony."

- Chinese place great emphasis on education and it is the pride to see their children graduate. Now the mortar is from not a party which is involved in the implementation of the NEP (note my point in previous posting)

"Those in the boarding schools had to conform to the school’s uniform , which sometimes include a felt hat. I have yet to hear of a Chinese parents disapproving of all these."

-dittio

" So why can’t they accept the songkok as part of the attire for a ceremony."
- is the effect if NEP implementation, or the misapplication of it, that caused unhappiness amongst non-beneficiaries

The undesirable effect is
1) lacklustre work culture
2) uncompetitive work force
3) hospitals that maims more than cure
4) buildings that are not safe
5) unimaginative business models
6) huge unemployed graduates
7) too many foreign workers

These are just among a few tangible result of a misapplied noble policy

HI,

The people who are STILL harping on race issues here are purely HARPING.

Harp and harp. and Hoping... a wedge..they hope to make.

ACTUALLY, most people are color blind now..maybe a bit of dissatisfaction, but still, its about reason and fairness stuff.(

If BN can be color blind..that will be good. A bit of blindness does helps..(so, just ignore that Mahmud was said to be a malay by Theresa..as the tone was kindly.)

YEs! we still buy honda and proton and eat sushi and nasi lemak and petai ..even if we know the history and treatments...so what! These shows we are color blind and forward looking and pragamatic and try to be peaceful in this modern world.

A DAY ago, I saw a (race cannot mentioned)lady with the white rod at a roadside near Masjid Jamek LRT station, hoiping to cross the busy street..she was a blind person. GUESS who helped her to cross the road? (hehe not me, i was driving and many cars were behind my back lah)...An old indian man ! who himslef looks tired himself..hold her white rod and lead her across the street.! IT was a pleasing sight of humanity...

Yeah, it's great to see open minded Malaysian like you people :D

That said, I despise how those UMNO biatches talk about Islamic stuffs to justify why the RM100 million pig farm should never be given the green light.

As Raja Petra have said, "Yes, makan babi, haram. Tapi makan duit perniagaan babi, tak haram. Makan duit rasuah dari perniagaan babi, tak haram. Makan gaji dari duit cukai perniagaan babi, tak haram. Cium ‘French kiss’ mulut GRO Cina yang makan babi, tak haram. Aiyah…..Melayu ni bangang sangatlah."

Idiots and hyprocrites can come from any race and religion I suppose. This recent political tsunami ought to give them, be it from BN or Pakatan Rakyat, a wake-up call to start becoming more mature, else, prepare to retire in GE13. Come on Pakatan Rakyat, take a step ahead than those BN beruks, drop the songkok and Islamic state issues. Focus towards serving the people. The voters definitely know you guys can do that much, much better than BN. Gambatte!!
