As a college lecturer, I have the opportunity to teach a student, aged 25, from Myanmar (Burma). This student is still too young to know the state of her country. Moreover, her father is a doctor & even her mother & sister are here in Kuala Lumpur, living quite well.
Most Burmese suffer under junta rule.
Something needs to be done.
The UN needs to have initiative.
For us, we pray for the nation & people of Myanmar for divine intervention.
God help them...

Today 4 July 2007 is the 231st anniversary of the independence of the USA with President Bush's term of office concluding in about 18 months.
The US can do something positive diplomatically to get Myanmar (Burma) on the road to democracy from where they left off in 1990.....
May God help this region of ours.....

The United States must seriously help to restore democracy in Burma (Myanmar) although there is nothing much to gain for them.

i suppose we are being consistent. Syed Hamid criticise Rommel for "intervening into Malaysia's internal affairs" with his comments on NEP so I suppose as long as each respective country is doing well economically, other issues are secondary.

US, EU being more affluent countries, can afford to have more time on human rights and society welfare. Asean is not a fully developed society as it stands. Those countries manage to progressed significantly since the 19th cintury over the matters like women's right, minority rights etc but that is after they achieve significant economic progress...where are we, Asean?
